Duffy Sheridan has been painting since he
was a child. His father, also an artist, encouraged him
to paint anything and everything. He has traveled the
world and has dedicated his work to the discovery and
expression of beauty as he sees it.
Although Sheridan was a working artist as
a young man, he did not begin to truly hone his skills
until he and his family moved abroad. For 12 years,
living on Islands in the South Atlantic and South
Pacific, he worked relentlessly developing a style of
painting which would allow him the freedom to explore
visually those subjects which are of interest to him.
During those years he realized that for him painting in
a realistic manner forces one to be perceptive and that
perception guides one toward appreciation.
Since returning to the United States in
1991, his work has received international acclaim and he
has been designated a Living Master by the Art Renewal
Center. For over 40 years, the teachings of the Baha’i
Faith have been the primary influence on Sheridan’s life
and work and have guided his search for that balance of
craftsmanship and artistic expression which he believes
has the potential to elevate, in some small way, the
human condition.
Sheridan feels that he is continually in
the process of learning to appreciate the richness of
the world around him and has come to believe that the
purpose of his work is “to magnify the dignity and the
inspiring qualities of the human spirit.”
“My years of practice and observation
have led me to acknowledge that all I perceive to be
wonderful about art can be expressed through the human
form and it is my purpose to explore those subtle
elements of human expression that reveal to us all the
tokens of the Divine.”
