Krystii Melaine

Born in Victoria, Australia, Krystii Melaine announced at the age of four that she was going to be an artist, won her first art competition at seven, and by the age of fourteen was selling paintings and accepting commissions. Following University studies in painting, drawing, graphic design and photography, Krystii enjoyed a highly successful career as a fashion designer.  Developing her bridal-wear company into one of the largest in Australia, her elegant, sculptural gowns were sold throughout Australia and New Zealand, and were shown in Paris and London.

A burning desire to return to her life-long passion for painting led Krystii to five years of study in traditional tonal realism with the renowned Australian artist, Graham Moore.  Her fascination for people and wildlife became the primary inspirations for her oil paintings, and Krystii is now recognized as one of Australia’s and America’s premier fine artists.  Her work is regularly exhibited in art museums and important exhibitions across North America and her paintings are held in museum collections including the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, Military museums in Australia, and many private collections around the world.

After ten years of travelling regularly from her home in Australia to the USA, Krystii and her husband have moved permanently to Spokane, Washington to be nearer to her favorite Western and wildlife subjects.  Krystii also paints still life and commissioned portraits, and has completed many official portraits for museum collections and the Australian Army, Air Force and Navy.

Numerous awards have included Best of Show at Heart of the West; First Prize 2 Dimensional at Cowgirl Up!; The Painting Award at the Buffalo Bill Art Show; Best Of Show at Nature Works four times; The Award of Merit – Bird in Arts For The Parks; and Best Australian Native Wildlife Artist.  Krystii regularly exhibits in Museum shows including Masters of the American West, Quest for the West, The Russell, Birds in Art, Cowgirl Up!, Night of Artists,  The Buffalo Bill Art Show, and has twelve solo exhibitions.

The books Feather and Brush: Three Centuries of Australian Bird Art, Best of Worldwide Oil Artists, Volume 1, and “Star Wars Art Visions” feature Krystii’s paintings.  Articles about her work have appeared in Southwest Art, Art of the West, Western Art Collector, Wildlife Art and other magazines.

Krystii is represented by The Legacy Galleries, Scottsdale AZ & Jackson WY, Mountain Trails Gallery, Park City UT, Big Horn Galleries, Cody WY, Hayden Hays Galleries, Colorado Springs CO, and Decoys & Wildlife Gallery, Frenchtown NJ.

Krystii Melaine’s powerful oil paintings express the wonderful beauty and diversity of the people and wildlife of the American West and beyond.  Through her paintings, she hopes to inspire us to really appreciate all living things, and to see and experience the world with the passion of an artist.
